Edvera LMS — Credits and licences

Back to the documentation

Edvera LMS is free software. It bundles a few open-source libraries and fonts, each under its own licence. This page lists them all.

Edvera LMS

Edvera LMS is released under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later (GPL-2.0-or-later). The full licence text is in licensing/GPL-2.0.txt in your download.

The PHP, JavaScript, CSS and HTML of the plugin are covered by this licence, as are its translation files in languages/ (Persian, German, Turkish and Arabic) and its line icons, which are inline SVG shapes defined in includes/icons.php. The plugin bundles no icon font.

PHP libraries

Certificate PDFs and QR codes are produced by these libraries, shipped in the plugin's vendor/ folder. They are loaded only when a certificate PDF is rendered.

Each library's own licence file is kept in its folder under vendor/, for example vendor/mpdf/mpdf/LICENSE.txt and vendor/chillerlan/php-qrcode/LICENSE-MIT and LICENSE-ASL-2.0. The two mPDF shims (mpdf/psr-http-message-shim, mpdf/psr-log-aware-trait) declare the MIT License but ship no licence file; the release build adds the MIT text as LICENSE in their folders. Versions are those recorded in vendor/composer/installed.json.

Fonts

Vazirmatn

Vazirmatn Regular and Bold, in assets/fonts/, print Arabic, Persian and other Arabic-script names on certificates.

  • Licence: SIL Open Font License 1.1.
  • Copyright 2015 The Vazirmatn Project Authors (github.com/rastikerdar/vazirmatn).
  • Licence text: assets/fonts/OFL.txt, and licensing/Vazirmatn-OFL.txt in your download.

WenQuanYi Zen Hei

WenQuanYi Zen Hei prints Chinese, Japanese and Korean names on certificates. It is not part of the Edvera LMS plugin: it ships in the optional add-on Edvera LMS – CJK certificate fonts (optional/edvera-lms-cjk-fonts.zip in your download), as edvera-cjk-fonts/fonts/wqy-zenhei.ttc. Without the add-on, these names use the PDF viewer's own Asian fonts instead of being embedded.

  • Licence: GNU General Public License version 2, with the font embedding exception, and the M+ FONTS licence for the glyphs from the M+ fonts.
  • © 2007–2009 Qianqian Fang and The WenQuanYi Project Board of Trustees; © 1998–2004 Koanughi Un; © 1999–2005 Tsong-Min Wu, Tsong-Huey Wu, Edward G.J. Lee; © 2004 Firefly; © 2002–2008 M+ FONTS PROJECT.
  • Licence text: edvera-cjk-fonts/fonts/WenQuanYi-ZenHei-LICENSE.txt in the add-on, and licensing/WenQuanYi-ZenHei-LICENSE.txt in your download.

The add-on's own code is released, like Edvera LMS, under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later; its licence text is edvera-cjk-fonts/license.txt. Documents that embed the font, such as certificate PDFs, are not covered by the GPL (font embedding exception).

Fonts bundled with mPDF

mPDF comes with fonts for many writing systems. The release package keeps only the ones certificates need to print names in the scripts WordPress sites commonly use; they are in vendor/mpdf/mpdf/ttfonts/, each with its licence:

Persian and other Arabic-script text uses Vazirmatn, and Chinese, Japanese and Korean text uses WenQuanYi Zen Hei from the optional add-on (above), or the PDF viewer's Asian fonts without it. Fonts that mPDF would choose for other scripts are mapped to these, so a certificate never needs a font that is not in the package. All other mPDF fonts (88 MB in total), including Sun-ExtA, are left out of the release package.
